TIA PALERMO, Ph.D., MS
Principal Investigator
Tia Palermo, Ph.D., MS, is the Principal Investigator of the 2PE lab. She is President of Policy Research Solutions (PRESTO) and a Research Associate Professor at the University at Buffalo (State University of New York). She works to generate and synthesize evidence, as well as facilitate the uptake of research findings by governments and stakeholders to inform policy and practice. Her areas of specialization include cash transfers, social protection, health, food security, and gender-based violence. She conducts research and evaluates programs using econometric modeling and mixed method research, including primary data collection. She has substantial expertise conducting impact evaluations in Africa, including studies of large-scale cash transfer programs in collaboration with national governments, and implementation research in Latin America. Dr. Palermo engages in various activities with partners and stakeholders to facilitate evidence uptake for policy and programming and conducts various capacity-building activities (including mentoring and training). Previously, she was a Social Policy Manager for Social Protection at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), where she led research examining linkages between social policy, poverty, and well-being, with a focus on children and adolescents. Dr. Palermo previously worked for international NGOs, including Ipas and Family Care International. She is co-Principal Investigator on five studies for The Transfer Project and is also a member of the following Research Consortia: SPARKS Network for Health and Social Protection and The Cash Transfer and Intimate Partner Violence Research Collaborative. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and an MS in Economics.

SARAH LIMA, Ph.D., MPH
Researcher
Sarah Lima, Ph.D., MPH, recently graduated from the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health at the University at Buffalo with a PhD in Epidemiology. Her research focuses on the effects of historic redlining and cancer outcomes and cancer disparities. In the 2PE lab, Sarah conducted research on social determinants of health, including biological mechanisms linking economic insecurity and health. Prior to joining the 2PE Lab, Sarah Following her MPH, Sarah worked as a research coordinator for a breast cancer cohort study at Columbia University and as a data analyst at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. REBECCA RASNAKE, MSW, Ph.D Candidate
Researcher
Rebecca is a Licensed Master Social Worker and member of the Tonawanda Band of Seneca. She is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work and a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar. Her research interests include adverse childhood experiences, trauma informed care, and Indigenous populations. In the 2PE lab, Rebecca conducts research related to economic-strengthening policies and child maltreatment.

KATE ROGERS, MPH, Ph.D.
Researcher
Kate Rogers researches topics related to gender norms, sexual and reproductive health, sexual risk behavior, intimate partner and gender-based violence in adolescents. She holds a Ph.D. in Community Health and Health Behavior from the University at Buffalo and an MPH. In the 2PE lab, Kate conducts research on the intersection of economic strengthening interventions, adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health, and gender norms. CV

KALEY GROOMS, MD
Research Assistant
Kaley Grooms received her MD from the Jacobs School Of Medicine And Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. In the 2PE lab, Kaley worked on research related to economic-strengthening policies and the risk of gender-based violence in the US.

N. LOGAN, MS
Research Assistant
Logan holds an MS in International Development and Global Health from the University at Buffalo. In the 2PE lab, Logan is working on research related to economic strengthening interventions and adolescent health. In 2022, they won an Art Goshin Global Health Fieldwork award from the Office of Global Health Initiatives (OGHI) at UB for this work.
